Guardian's of York
This project celebrates the ‘guardians’ of the city, specifically the key workers who helped keep York in motion at a time when the city and the world came to a standstill during a global pandemic. Our mission is to elevate these wonderful humans through street art.

About the Artists
Internationally acclaimed street artists The Postman are an anonymous collective who choose paste-ups as their medium of urban art and express themselves in the form of brightly coloured, edgy portraits.
This impermanent form of art fades and washes away over time which creates a buzz as people seek them out before they disappear. The Postman’s unique style takes influence from their roots in graffiti culture.
About the Guardians
Eleven key workers, all of them York residents, were interviewed and told their account of the hardships of working through a pandemic. Portraits of these individuals were rendered by the artists into colourful renditions and then applied in large format onto the city walls of York.
